While just starting to rap at the young age of eight Rocky’s brother had a huge influence on his career and motivated him to keep pursuing music. Ricky Mayers then sadly passed away on February 26th, 2002 and this tragic event motivated him to start rapping a bit more seriously at the age of 13. From there sometime in 2007 Rocky joined the Harlem based A$AP Mob founded by A$AP Yams, A$AP Bari and A$AP Illz and officially took on the name A$AP Rocky which he would start rapping under. In 2010 he would begin to release throwaways, the earliest known song being “Uptown” on May 28th, 2010 on the YouTube channel “HarlemzMostHated” along with many more. On April 14th, 2011 Rocky released “Purple Swag” a song that would change his life forever as it quickly became a street anthem in New York. The previously mentioned throwaways were released during this time and would be featured on a fan-made mixtape titled “Deep Purple” which was released on April 22nd, 2011 and is commonly confused to be Rocky’s real first project. While this compilation of songs isn't official, it began to give Rocky more traction with his music. During this time Rocky was working on a mixtape prior to “LIVE.LOVE.A$AP” that got deleted by the engineer he was working with and only three songs from it survived. Around May of 2011, probably around the time “Wassup” released and after that initial mixtape got deleted, Rocky stopped selling drugs and started truly focusing on his rap career and with that would begin to work on his first mixtape. The cover seen here is a viral photo of Rocky on A$AP Yams's Tumbler from 2009-2010 that would later inspire the cover of the mixtape.

The song was encoded in iTunes 9.0.2 meaning it was made after October 29th, 2009. The song is featured on the notorious fake mixtape "Deep Purple" along with many other songs from this era. The song discusses Rocky's love for just one girl, despite his experiences with other women all around the world. The song later got an official "Slow Lane" remix by DJ DP which was lost then resurfaced on January 1st, 2024. The song was sent to DJ DP by someone "on Rocky's team", rumored to be A$AP Yams, on October 15th, 2010 requesting for the song to be remixed and was sent back to the person on October 20th, 2010 and uploaded to the HarlemzMostHated YouTube channel on the same day. A$AP Ferg) The song titled "Get High" was made in either August or early September 2010 according to A$AP Ferg on his Tumblr stating "we just made a song called “GET HIGH” fuckin retarted". DEEFERG, as he went by then, released on his Tumblr as well on the same day, September 3rd, 2010. The track then had a music video released on November 27th, 2010 directed by King Zulu, but the track was possibly posted to the HarlemzMostHated YouTube channel at some point. (Turn It Up) Unreleased 2010 track which was said to be made during the sessions for "Peso" with Kevin Andres, who is notably a uncredited writer and feature on that song, but this is not the case. The track is likely from 2010 or before but it was not made during the "2010" session for "Peso" because that was recorded in 2011. The title of the song is now currently lost as the song was uploaded to YouTube by "MUSIC FOR THE PEOPLE" on December 14th, 2015 under the name "UNRELEASED ASAP ROCKY" but it is unknown if this is the true origins of this leak.
