At Princess Anne High School, in 1986, Pharrell would meet Chad Hugo. In 1991, Pharrell and Chad would meet Shae Haley and in 1992, Pharrell, Chad and Mike would enter in a local talent contest, with them forming The Neptunes. Teddy Riley would meet up with Pharrell, Chad and Mike to talk about doing some music together. This would lead Pharrell to work with Wreckx N' Effect, a group Teddy was in. Chad would work with Blackstreet in 1995 and Mike would work with Blackstreet the year after.
