While just starting to rap at the young age of eight years old Rocky’s brother Ricky Black had a huge influence on his career and motivated him to keep pursuing music, the same year his dad—who was “into the streets back then”—moved his family to Pennsylvania. His father went to jail for selling drugs when Rocky was 12, and his mother moved the family to North Carolina. Homeless, they ended up living in a shelter. Their luck never got better, and Rocky’s mother moved the family back to New York. Unfortunately, Ricky Mayers then was sadly shot and killed just a block away from where Rocky was born on February 26th, 2002 and this tragic event motivated Rocky to start rapping a bit more seriously at the age of thirteen. Soon enough, while bouncing around homeless shelters in the city with his mother, out of options and tired of grinding it out, Rocky got involved in the drug trade. He started selling weed, and by age 15 had graduated to selling crack in the Bronx. Then when Rocky was around 17 Rah Money introduced him to a group started by one of Rocky's closest friends, Knocka. Around the time that Knocka turned 18 years old he started this group when he had gotten a lawsuit for one million dollars, Knocka named this group "Million Dollar Baby", but was oftentimes stated as "MDB". Rocky has described the group as "really Harlem", and he would often be seen with the likes of Knocka, Rell Money and Rah Money, as this was Rocky's main friend group at the time. In 2007 Rocky joined the A$AP Mob and started going by A$AP Rocky, but was still associated with MDB, but eventually, around 2008 Rodky differed away from MDB and was mainly focused on being a part of A$AP. Seemingly, Rocky did made music during this era but it will likely never be recovered as it is probably only still owned by very few people. The cover used for this era is an old photo of Rocky that says "Fly Guy Rocky", "M.D.B.".
MDB ✨ CEO Freestyle An originally unreleased freestyle made sometime during 2007, as confirmed by lyrics in the song, likely around the time Rocky was in MDB and joined the A$AP Mob titled "CEO Freestyle". The freestyle was eventually released online by Rocky on December 19th, 2011, but as of now it is unknown exactly where Rocky released this track online. The track has an early 2000s sound as the song was made much prior to when Rocky would find his own style many years later as this is currently the oldest full Rocky song available to the public. In a previously unreleased early 2012 Pitchfork interview with A$AP Yams, he stated that "When I first met Rocky, he had about three tracks recorded and had barely gone into the studio before", he continued by saying "He didn’t know how to work sometimes. It sounded like he was mumbling. He still needed to get everything together." It is very likely one of the three songs A$AP Yams was refering to was "CEO Freestyle". During the intro and hook of the freestyle the song samples "Stand Up" by Ludacris by using Ludacris' verse, but pitched down. 4:09 2007 Dec 19, 2011 Full High Quality https://pillowcase.su/f/878ec2086df9a560da247516840d2c72
MDB Unknown [Three Recorded Songs] In a unreleased interview with A$AP Yams, that was released just a day after his passing on January 19th, 2015, he states that Rocky had around three songs recorded when he met him and had barely ever gone into the studio. Yams also said that "It sounded like he was mumbling. He still needed to get everything together". He stated that when he first met Rocky he sounded like "Kid Cudi mixed with Lil Wayne". It is possible that one of the songs Yams was referring to was "CEO Freestyle", but nothing is certain as of right now. MDB Unknown [7 Knocka Collaborations] One of Rocky's oldest and closest friends, and leader of Million Dollar Baby, Knocka claimed in May 1st, 2012 interview that he had put Rocky on several songs of his in the past. He stated "He repped the team for roughly two years then felt that the team was about me (even though his name was just as popular as mine, and I put him on several songs when people in Harlem never even knew he rapped)". These songs are likely lost to time. MDB Unknown [MDB Collaborations] It is assumed that while Rocky was in MDB he made more solo music than what is currently available. If any music was made with the any members of MDB such as Knocka and Rah Money, it is likely that they are completely lost, or possibly owned by people that were in the Harlem area at the time or former MDB members and affiliates. A$AP Unknown [Ustream Freestyles] It can be assumed that Rocky recorded more freestyles while live on Ustream around 2009 to 2010, other than the three currently known freestyles. In the song "Out Of This World", which was likely recorded in 2010, Rocky mentions "live on Ustream" so it can be assumed that he would go live on here often. In 2016, the Ustream website was acquired by IBM and rebranded
